A refer-a-friend offer that clients actually use
Your best clients are already recommending you. A referral offer does not create that; it just gives them a reason to do it this week instead of eventually.
Reformer is a trust purchase. Somebody nervous about a first class is far more likely to book because a friend said "come with me on Thursday" than because of an advert. A good referral scheme makes that sentence easier to say and gives the person who says it a small thank-you.
Choosing the reward
The best rewards cost you little and mean something to the client. That almost always means a class, not cash.
| Reward | Cost to you | Verdict |
|---|---|---|
| A free class for the referrer | A spot in a class that often has room | The default. Easy to understand, and it brings the referrer back in |
| A free class for both | Two spots | Stronger, and gives the friend a reason to book now rather than later |
| Money off the next pack | Real revenue | Works, but trains people to think about price |
| Merchandise | The item, plus stock to manage | Nice as an extra, rarely motivating on its own |
When to ask
- Not at signup. A brand-new client has nobody to recommend you to yet, because they do not know whether they like it.
- Around the fifth to tenth class, when the habit has formed and they have started talking about it at work.
- Right after a good moment: a first full roll-up, a compliment, a finished pack.
- Before the busy seasons, January and September, when their friends are making resolutions anyway.
Make it easy to pass on
The friction is not the reward, it is the mechanics. A client should be able to send a link from their phone in a WhatsApp message, or show a QR code at the desk, without you issuing a code by hand. And the friend should land on your booking page, not on a form.
Keep an eye on one thing: whether the friends come back after their first class. A scheme that brings plenty of first visits and no regulars is attracting people who came for the freebie. Usually the fix is not the reward, it is what happens in that first class.
In Reformer Pilates Booking, refer-a-friend is off until you switch it on. You choose the reward from your own products, each member gets a personal link and QR code, and the reward is paid automatically when the friend takes their first class or buys their first pack, whichever comes first.
Switch on referrals with a reward you pick.
Start for freeCommon questions
- What is a good referral reward for a Pilates studio?
- A free class, either for the referrer or for both people. It costs a spot in a class that often has room, brings the referrer back in, and does not train clients to think about discounts the way money off a pack does.
- When should a referral reward be paid out?
- When the friend actually turns up, for example at their first class. Waiting for a large pack purchase delays the reward by months, by which time the referrer has forgotten about it.
- When should I ask clients to refer a friend?
- Once the habit has formed, typically somewhere between the fifth and tenth class, and right after a good moment in class. Not at signup, when the client does not yet know whether they like it.
